Minimum Wage in Canada

Each Canadian province and territory has a varying labour standard that sets the lowest wage rate (minimum wage) that an employer can pay to employees who are covered by the legislation. Though most minimum wage earners are paid based on the general rates for their jurisdiction, some categories of employees are governed by differing acts or regulations. Certain employees may also fall into a different wage category based on their type, e.g. young workers, workers with disabilities, domestic and live-in care workers, farm labour and homeworkers.

Additionally, workers may be excluded from the general coverage based on their class of work, such as supervisory and managerial employees, students employed in training, participants in job experience and rehabilitation programs, registered apprentices, commission-only salespersons, and some members and students of designated professions.
